365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 166

Drawer number 4.  This one is full of kitchen towels, place mats and trivets. Two towels will go to the barn. Too stained to use in the house. I also decided to donate one set of trivets.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 165

Drawer number 3. This one is full of dish cloths. I took about 10 out to take to the barn. They are kind of stained and will make good rags to use to clean horse stuff. I'm pretty sure this counts as decluttering. It does get them out of my kitchen and does repurpose them. They are too stained to donate but are still good enough to use. Just not for their original purpose.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 164

Moved to the next drawer. This is also a catch all drawer. Not very rewarding because it is mostly a case of throwing away junk and moving stuff to where it belongs. However, the drawer is now much cleaner and neater.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 163

Today I moved to the drawer underneath the counter I did yesterday. This is a junk drawer. I mostly found stuff to throw away, specifically an old pair of glasses and some  expired heartworm medicine. A lot of stuff I just moved to a more appropriate place. Now the drawer contains mostly the dog leashes and brushes and a couple of pairs of shoe laces. The dog stuff is appropriate because this drawer is next to the door leading to the garage. If I take the dogs for a walk, this is the door we leave out of.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 162

I'm moving counter clockwise around the room. The first counter top had a lot of junk on it. Through most of it away including some old flea and tick treatments for the dogs. They had expired years ago. Threw away old pens that don't work along with the containers they were in that were old and dirty. So now on that very short stretch of counter, there is only a container with pens that work and a box of kleenex.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 161

My plan is to start in one corner and work my way around the room, possibly twice. The first time around doing the lower cabinets followed by the upper cabinets.

The first corner contains a bench where we keep our shoes when we come in. Lately, especially now that the kids don't live here any more, it isn't as cluttered with old shoes as it used to be but I did find an old pair of flip flops that were hiding underneath the bench. They are too worn to give away so they will go in the trash. I also found a old pair of half-chaps. They must have been my daughters. Unfortunately, one of the seams had split so I had to trash them as well. There was also an old pair of flats that also belonged to Ky. I don't know if she was still using them but she left them when she went off to school and they looked to worn to use so I tossed them too. The pair of flip flops and tennis shoes of hers I put in her room. I think she still uses them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 160

Today  I'm going to start working on the kitchen. If I can't find at least a week or two worth of stuff to get rid of, then I'm not trying very hard. For Thursday, I'm choosing a small coffee maker and blender that my son brought back from his apartment that he no longer wants. We've owned these for years and years. I'll be donating them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 159

I've finished up the dining room and the last thing that is going away is a box of 4 plastic glasses I'm giving to my daughter. They've never been used. They will be cute for fruity drinks.

Living room is nest. This one will be hard because it is very cluttered with all my sewing stuff. This is also where I've put all the old clothes that I will be making into something else.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 158

Today I was able to persuade my husband to give up an old coffee maker that we've had for probably 20+ years. It still works, or did the last time we used it, which was a long time ago. I'm going to donate it to Goodwill.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 157

Today's find is a box of luffa sponges that have been sitting in the dining room for about 2 years now. I've known that I wasn't going to use them for anything but hadn't figured out what to do with them when it finally occurred to me that they should go in the compost bin. These weren't very pretty ones or I would have used them for bath sponges.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 156

I've moved into the dining room. Mostly it just needs cleaning up. I do a lot of my quilting in there and the place is a wreck so I can't count throwing away the trash as decluttering. But there are a lot of things that I've had for a while now that need to be gotten rid of and can count. Today's choice is an old sewing box that my aunt gave me early last year. I hate to throw it away but the insides are water stained and the weaving on the top in not repairable. I was going to try and repair it all because it does have some sentimental value as well as potential use but I know I will never get around to it. So, out it goes.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 155

I've started in on the cabinets in the wet bar in the den. I found an ice crusher and some bridge party stuff (never opened) to donate.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 154

This post is for yesterday, Friday the 19th. I spent the day judging the Special Olympics done in Perry. It's rewarding but exhausting. I threw away two little baskets with flowers glued to the top. Again, this is something I've had for years, never really put any potpouri (I know I'm spelling that wrong to don't want to take the time to figure out how to spell it correctly) in it. The dried flowers are disintegrating or I would donate it.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 153

Today a globe that we bought for the kids long, long ago will go to Goodwill. One less thing to have to dust.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 152

I made it to Goodwill today and took a bunch of things I'd been saving up to take. I also added something else to the pile to take, a set of handyman encyclopedias. They were some that Aunt Roberta gave me last year, I finally realized I won't every actually look at them and I don't really have any place to put them. Hopefully they will find a new home with someone else.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 151

Today I'm donating two books to the library. A Children's dictionary and a Children's health encyclopedia. While a part of me wants to save them for my kids when they have kids, the sensible part of me says that 1. they are already out of date (maybe not the dictionary) and 2. If I need this kind of information, I'm going to google it anyway.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 150

I don't know why but certain post numbers are special. 150 is special even though it isn't really half way through.
Candles. I don't use candles. I have 2 more, never used them. Even when the lights go out, we used flashlights instead. They just gather dust. They no longer have much scent left though I imagine that if you lit them they might. I'm donating them too.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 149

So yesterday I got rid of the pink flowers. Today I'm getting rid of the pink candle. I guess this stuff has sort of matched my decor such as it is. The carpet in that room is a mauvy pink color. But I've had the candle as long as the flowers so it's time to go. I think I will donate it however. The candle has never been lit so someone may actually find a use for it.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 148

I believe that this post catches me up. I have this silk flower arrangement that I've had for ever. At least since I've been married which is 24 years. It has pink flowers. Does not really match anything in my house but I've kept it on the mantel ever since we moved in 18 years ago. I think it is past it's time. In the trash it goes. I'm keeping the brass pot it was in though. I find some more appropriate flowers to put in it.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 147

This post is for Friday. I finished up the cabinets in the den. Mostly found stuff to throw away. Some old pictures and other trash. Not very interesting.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 146

Well I'm behind again. This post is for Thursday even though I did the de-cluttering today on Saturday. I'll have to do several today to catch up.

I'm continuing with the cabinets in the den under the book cases. I found several old (and I mean old) magazines and workbooks to put in the recycle bin and several things to throw away. I can't decide what to do with the old VHS tapes. Some aren't labeled so I don't know what's in them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 145

I ended up spending more money on gas going to the post office than I made on the book. I could have put in in the mailbox to get the delivery person to take (they do that around here) but I didn't have it ready and since it was so late anyway, I decided to take it to the post office myself. Took forever, other stuff happened. It was unpleasant. Anyway, I've decide that it is not worth it to sell any more books for less than a dollar so I'm taking them off half.com and giving them away. Two go to the library and another I will save to give my niece for her kids since it is a kid's book.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 144

I sold a book. For a whopping .79. Apparently it sold in July but I didn't get an email saying that someone had bought it. I did get the email saying that half.com was posting the amount plus shipping to my paypal account. So I knew I had sold a book. Anyway, it goes in the mail tomorrow.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 143

Well, it's been a month since my last post. July was just so busy that something had to go. Unfortunately blogging and decluttering was one of the things that had to go as was cleaning house. So my house looks way more cluttered than it should be just because I haven't straightened up lately. But now that all the horse shows are done and most of the produce from the garden has been put up for the winter things can get more back to normal. That doesn't mean I don't have a lot to do, I do, but I hope I can get back to daily decluttering.

I did manage to get some of the things I had to donate to the Women's shelter to the shelter. I still have some more to take that will go next week.

So for today I will take credit for the toner cartridge I returned to Office Max to be recycled a couple of weeks ago.
