365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 205

I'm trying to get the stuff that I'm donating out of the house quicker than in the past. I've been to Goodwill twice since we got back from vacation. I took a small tupperware egg cooker thingy to Goodwill today along with the soccer shoes that I took credit for a couple of days ago.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 204

I keep all the pages that I print out for use a scrap paper. I have a lot of scrap paper. So much in fact that it no longer fits in the cubby that I keep it in. So a large portion of it is going in the recycle bin.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 203

I finally persuaded my husband to give up the really worn out pair of riding boots that he hasn't worn in years. He had worn holes in the leather for god's sake. He's been using his better pair to ride in. Buy he has just as much trouble as I do throwing stuff away. He wore them for quite a while with holes in them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 202

2 pair of soccer shoes that while old still look usable. So I'll be donating these.

Friday, November 11, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 201

I'm back in the kitchen/laundry room. Today I started in the coat closet. 5 pairs of sneakers are going in the trash. They are old and not usable.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 200

A milestone day. 200. 165 to go. I'm throwing away two books and donating one to the library.

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 199

Today I'm taking a whole bunch of stuff to Goodwill. Most of it is stuff I've already talked about but I'm sure there is stuff in there that I haven't so I'm counting it today. The whole back seat of the car is filled with clothes, small appliances, shoes and books. The trundle bed in my office where I've been staging the stuff to go elsewear is much emptier now though there is still some stuff that needs to be sorted through. They may be subjects for later posts.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 198

Back in the summer, Larry brought home some old appliances that we had given him when he moved into his apartment. He decided he no longer needed them, probably because he had never used them. They are an old small coffee maker and a blender. I'm donating them to Goodwill.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 197

The top of our dryer seems to be collecting place for stuff that I don't know what else to do with. There were about 20 samples of horse shampoo, conditioner, etc that I will move down to the barn where I might actually use them. There were two weight tapes that I'm throwing away and a dog chew treat that I gave to one of the dogs. The treat has been sitting up there for years. Don't know what I was saving it for.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 196

I wrapped two books to give to my niece's twin girls. I've had these books for a long time but they've never been read. I think she will like them.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 195

Three pair of leggings will be donated to Goodwill. These are my daughters that she used to ride in but are still in good condition.

Friday, November 4, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 194

October was just too busy and then we went on vacation. I just didn't have time to update this blog or to de-clutter anything. So I'll just keep going from today.

Today I took another book to the library.

Our vacation was fantastic. I'm very refreshed and ready to get going again.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 203

In an effort to not waste paper, I keep a lot of the stuff I print out for scrap. The stack of scrap paper is getting very tall. So tall I can't get any more in the cubby that I keep it in. Therefore, it must go into the recycle bin.

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 193

3 pair of jeans. They are all pretty worn out. One I'll donate, they're problem is that the are too small, the other go in the trash.

Monday, September 26, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 192

Socks. I found a couple of pair that I can wear but the rest will go in the rag bag (or the trash, we already have more rags than we can use).

Sunday, September 25, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 191

Today  it's 4 or 5 t-shirts that are still wearable but that are too small and have no sentimental value. They will be donated.

Saturday, September 24, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 190

Today's selection is a pile of underwear that are either worn out or that don't fit. Bras and panties. Oooh.

Friday, September 23, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 189

Today, she selected 4 t-shirts that will go in the t-shirt quilt pile.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 187

Today, 2 pair of band shoes that will be donated to the band.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 186

Still working on the daughter's bedroom. Selected for today post is a stack of 10 or so magazines that will to to the recycler on the next trip.

Monday, September 19, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 185

Took a pair of winter riding pants to the consignment shop. None of the stuff I took in June has sold. I've yet to ever actually sell anything there but maybe someday...

Sunday, September 18, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 184

Well, here it is day 184 so  I'm over half way there. I found a nice pair of Kerrit's riding pants. I will try to sell these, either to my riding instructor or take them to the consignment shop. My instructors daughter may can wear them.

Saturday, September 17, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 183

I'm almost done with washing all her clothes. A pair of jeans looks to have been chewed upon so can't be worn anymore. I'll put it in the rag bag.

Friday, September 16, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 182

Three pairs of legging go in the donate pile. They are still in pretty good shape and I surely wish I could get into them.

Thursday, September 15, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 181

Today I put a pair of flannel pants in the future memory quilt pile. They had  a rip in them so aren't wearable anymore but there is enough good fabric left that I can use them in the quilt. These are in Sequoyah colors.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 180

Oops, found another pair of chewed up underwear. Should be the last.

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 179

Found another t-shirt to go in the t-shirt quilt pile. This one was an old soccer t-shirt. It's been a looonnng time since she played soccer.

Monday, September 12, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 178

Today 3 pair of underwear went in the trash. The dogs really like to chew on used undies left on the floor. In general they won't get them out of the basket but if they are on the floor, then they are fair game.

Sunday, September 11, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 177

Still working on the clothes. Found 2 shirts to put in the t-shirt quilt pile and 1 to donate. The donated shirt was one she used for band concerts. The quilt t-shirts were from middle school.

Saturday, September 10, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 176

I've started going through her clothes most of which were on the floor. I've done about 9 loads already and there will be more. Today 2 shirts went in the rag bag. Looks like Pepper chewed on one and another looks like she took the sissors to it.

Friday, September 9, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 175

Today 5 empty cardboard boxes went in the recycle bin.

Thursday, September 8, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 174

We've started cleaning out my daughter's room. I'm sure we will be throwing away, donating, repurposing lots of stuff. Today, 3 bags of trash left the house.

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 173

Today 4 old Java books and one old C++ book when in the recycle bin.

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 172

Today I will be donating an old jacket to the Women's shelter.

Monday, September 5, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 171

Drawer number 7. Another drawer with useful, used fairly often stuff. This one has grill tools, grater, sieves, rolling pin, etc. I did find a little long handled pot that I believe is used to melt butter. I will never use it so it will go in the donate pile.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 170

There wasn't much in drawer number 6 that I could get rid of. I keep bags, plastic wrap, aluminum foil and stuff like that in this drawer. I did find several pieces of wrinkled up aluminum foil that I guess someone was saving to reuse. It's been in the drawer like that for years. They will probably not every be used, mainly because they are in the bottom of the drawer so hard to see, and they probably wouldn't fit whatever I wanted to cover with them. So in the trash they go.

Saturday, September 3, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 169

Today was drawer number 5. I keep rubber bands, twist ties, bottle openers, little stuff like that in this drawer. Mostly what I found to get rid of was old rubber bands and twist ties. But I also found a butter brush that has never been used. I will donate that.

Friday, September 2, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 168

Today I decided it was time to go through some more of my cookbooks. So I went through 3, found the 3 recipes that I thought I might make sometime and recycled the rest.

Thursday, September 1, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 167

Continuing counter clockwise around the kitchen, today we cleaned out under the sink. There isn't a whole lot under there, I guess this was a habit we started when the kids were little. Some cleaning stuff, all of which was relatively new. But there was several containers of old plant food that either had expired long ago or, in the case of the powdered stuff, was so caked it wasn't really usable. So I threw them all away.

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 166

Drawer number 4.  This one is full of kitchen towels, place mats and trivets. Two towels will go to the barn. Too stained to use in the house. I also decided to donate one set of trivets.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 165

Drawer number 3. This one is full of dish cloths. I took about 10 out to take to the barn. They are kind of stained and will make good rags to use to clean horse stuff. I'm pretty sure this counts as decluttering. It does get them out of my kitchen and does repurpose them. They are too stained to donate but are still good enough to use. Just not for their original purpose.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 164

Moved to the next drawer. This is also a catch all drawer. Not very rewarding because it is mostly a case of throwing away junk and moving stuff to where it belongs. However, the drawer is now much cleaner and neater.

Sunday, August 28, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 163

Today I moved to the drawer underneath the counter I did yesterday. This is a junk drawer. I mostly found stuff to throw away, specifically an old pair of glasses and some  expired heartworm medicine. A lot of stuff I just moved to a more appropriate place. Now the drawer contains mostly the dog leashes and brushes and a couple of pairs of shoe laces. The dog stuff is appropriate because this drawer is next to the door leading to the garage. If I take the dogs for a walk, this is the door we leave out of.

Saturday, August 27, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 162

I'm moving counter clockwise around the room. The first counter top had a lot of junk on it. Through most of it away including some old flea and tick treatments for the dogs. They had expired years ago. Threw away old pens that don't work along with the containers they were in that were old and dirty. So now on that very short stretch of counter, there is only a container with pens that work and a box of kleenex.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 161

My plan is to start in one corner and work my way around the room, possibly twice. The first time around doing the lower cabinets followed by the upper cabinets.

The first corner contains a bench where we keep our shoes when we come in. Lately, especially now that the kids don't live here any more, it isn't as cluttered with old shoes as it used to be but I did find an old pair of flip flops that were hiding underneath the bench. They are too worn to give away so they will go in the trash. I also found a old pair of half-chaps. They must have been my daughters. Unfortunately, one of the seams had split so I had to trash them as well. There was also an old pair of flats that also belonged to Ky. I don't know if she was still using them but she left them when she went off to school and they looked to worn to use so I tossed them too. The pair of flip flops and tennis shoes of hers I put in her room. I think she still uses them.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 160

Today  I'm going to start working on the kitchen. If I can't find at least a week or two worth of stuff to get rid of, then I'm not trying very hard. For Thursday, I'm choosing a small coffee maker and blender that my son brought back from his apartment that he no longer wants. We've owned these for years and years. I'll be donating them.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 159

I've finished up the dining room and the last thing that is going away is a box of 4 plastic glasses I'm giving to my daughter. They've never been used. They will be cute for fruity drinks.

Living room is nest. This one will be hard because it is very cluttered with all my sewing stuff. This is also where I've put all the old clothes that I will be making into something else.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 158

Today I was able to persuade my husband to give up an old coffee maker that we've had for probably 20+ years. It still works, or did the last time we used it, which was a long time ago. I'm going to donate it to Goodwill.

Monday, August 22, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 157

Today's find is a box of luffa sponges that have been sitting in the dining room for about 2 years now. I've known that I wasn't going to use them for anything but hadn't figured out what to do with them when it finally occurred to me that they should go in the compost bin. These weren't very pretty ones or I would have used them for bath sponges.

Sunday, August 21, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 156

I've moved into the dining room. Mostly it just needs cleaning up. I do a lot of my quilting in there and the place is a wreck so I can't count throwing away the trash as decluttering. But there are a lot of things that I've had for a while now that need to be gotten rid of and can count. Today's choice is an old sewing box that my aunt gave me early last year. I hate to throw it away but the insides are water stained and the weaving on the top in not repairable. I was going to try and repair it all because it does have some sentimental value as well as potential use but I know I will never get around to it. So, out it goes.

Saturday, August 20, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 155

I've started in on the cabinets in the wet bar in the den. I found an ice crusher and some bridge party stuff (never opened) to donate.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 154

This post is for yesterday, Friday the 19th. I spent the day judging the Special Olympics done in Perry. It's rewarding but exhausting. I threw away two little baskets with flowers glued to the top. Again, this is something I've had for years, never really put any potpouri (I know I'm spelling that wrong to don't want to take the time to figure out how to spell it correctly) in it. The dried flowers are disintegrating or I would donate it.

Thursday, August 18, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 153

Today a globe that we bought for the kids long, long ago will go to Goodwill. One less thing to have to dust.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 152

I made it to Goodwill today and took a bunch of things I'd been saving up to take. I also added something else to the pile to take, a set of handyman encyclopedias. They were some that Aunt Roberta gave me last year, I finally realized I won't every actually look at them and I don't really have any place to put them. Hopefully they will find a new home with someone else.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 151

Today I'm donating two books to the library. A Children's dictionary and a Children's health encyclopedia. While a part of me wants to save them for my kids when they have kids, the sensible part of me says that 1. they are already out of date (maybe not the dictionary) and 2. If I need this kind of information, I'm going to google it anyway.

Monday, August 15, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 150

I don't know why but certain post numbers are special. 150 is special even though it isn't really half way through.
Candles. I don't use candles. I have 2 more, never used them. Even when the lights go out, we used flashlights instead. They just gather dust. They no longer have much scent left though I imagine that if you lit them they might. I'm donating them too.

Sunday, August 14, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 149

So yesterday I got rid of the pink flowers. Today I'm getting rid of the pink candle. I guess this stuff has sort of matched my decor such as it is. The carpet in that room is a mauvy pink color. But I've had the candle as long as the flowers so it's time to go. I think I will donate it however. The candle has never been lit so someone may actually find a use for it.

Saturday, August 13, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 148

I believe that this post catches me up. I have this silk flower arrangement that I've had for ever. At least since I've been married which is 24 years. It has pink flowers. Does not really match anything in my house but I've kept it on the mantel ever since we moved in 18 years ago. I think it is past it's time. In the trash it goes. I'm keeping the brass pot it was in though. I find some more appropriate flowers to put in it.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 147

This post is for Friday. I finished up the cabinets in the den. Mostly found stuff to throw away. Some old pictures and other trash. Not very interesting.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 146

Well I'm behind again. This post is for Thursday even though I did the de-cluttering today on Saturday. I'll have to do several today to catch up.

I'm continuing with the cabinets in the den under the book cases. I found several old (and I mean old) magazines and workbooks to put in the recycle bin and several things to throw away. I can't decide what to do with the old VHS tapes. Some aren't labeled so I don't know what's in them.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 145

I ended up spending more money on gas going to the post office than I made on the book. I could have put in in the mailbox to get the delivery person to take (they do that around here) but I didn't have it ready and since it was so late anyway, I decided to take it to the post office myself. Took forever, other stuff happened. It was unpleasant. Anyway, I've decide that it is not worth it to sell any more books for less than a dollar so I'm taking them off half.com and giving them away. Two go to the library and another I will save to give my niece for her kids since it is a kid's book.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 144

I sold a book. For a whopping .79. Apparently it sold in July but I didn't get an email saying that someone had bought it. I did get the email saying that half.com was posting the amount plus shipping to my paypal account. So I knew I had sold a book. Anyway, it goes in the mail tomorrow.

Monday, August 8, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 143

Well, it's been a month since my last post. July was just so busy that something had to go. Unfortunately blogging and decluttering was one of the things that had to go as was cleaning house. So my house looks way more cluttered than it should be just because I haven't straightened up lately. But now that all the horse shows are done and most of the produce from the garden has been put up for the winter things can get more back to normal. That doesn't mean I don't have a lot to do, I do, but I hope I can get back to daily decluttering.

I did manage to get some of the things I had to donate to the Women's shelter to the shelter. I still have some more to take that will go next week.

So for today I will take credit for the toner cartridge I returned to Office Max to be recycled a couple of weeks ago.

Friday, July 8, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 142

This post is for Thursday. Yesterday I gave 2 DVDs and a book back to my neighbor. They lent them to us a long, long time ago. It's about time I returned them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 141

This post is for Wednesday. I'm donating a chemistry set called Sweet Science Lab to either the women's shelter or Goodwill. Haven't decided yet. It is still sealed in its original packaging. I would sell it but it is 12 years old and I'm not sure that the chemicals in it are still good.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 140

I've recently moved into the den where I'm sure I will find lots of stuff to get rid of. That's where all the magazines that I recycled over the weekend came from (the coffee table). Today I've moved to the cabinets under the book shelves. Lots of games and junk under there. For today, I've chosen 3 video tapes to go in the trash. They were old Lotus video magazines? I never watched them. I think I was saving them to record over but we don't use video tapes any more so I don't think I'll need them. There were also lots of videos of the horses. I'll keep them and hopefully get them transferred to computer some day. I also recycled some old cards and papers that I found down there.

Monday, July 4, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 139

This post should catch me up. How about 2 years of Dressage Today magazines in the recycle bin. I think that's all the magazines for a while until I get down to Lawrence's office where there are many, many more magazines that need to be disposed of.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 138

For Sunday, I chose a years worth of Smithsonian magazines to put in the recycle bin.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 137

I'm a little behind. Been really busy with the garden and stuff but am back on track today. For Saturday (day 137) I am sending several years of Scientific American to the recycler. Lawrence will ask one of his co-workers who has teenage, nerdy kids if they want them but the will probably end up recycled.

Friday, July 1, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 136

I've finally decided that a hard cover book that I won as a door prize can go to the library as well. I was going to try and sell it on half.com but they aren't selling for enough to make it worthwhile.

Thursday, June 30, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 135

Today I moved into the Den. I'm sure I'll spend a long time in here. 4 paper back books are being donated to the library. I'm sure there will be more.

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 134

The floor of the hall closet is where I keep my wrapping paper and bows. I spent some time this morning going through it since I haven't done that in a long, long time. I mostly reorganized it but did get rid of old wrinkled paper and squished bows that I know I will never use. I don't know if bows are recyclable so I will throw those away and recycle what I can.

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 133

I moved back to the hall closet today. I found two small stuffed toys to donate to the women's shelter.

Monday, June 27, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 131 & 132

I mailed the puzzle today so that is for day 132.

For day 131 I have a box of boys shoes to go through. I think most will end up in the trash but some may be good enough to donate.

Saturday, June 25, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 130

I pulled two more bags from the attic today. Guess what, one had more draperies in it. Trash. The other had what I think were drapery liners as well as some clothes. I found 4 or 5 more shirts to use in the memory quilt and the rest is trash.

The person who bid on my puzzle finally paid but it is too late to mail it today so I will have to ship it on Monday. There is at least one more bag of something in the attic and a large box that I still need to go through.

Friday, June 24, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 129

This post should catch me up. I dragged two more bags of old clothes down from the attic. Some interesting finds. Some really old t-shirts, some of which I will save for a t-shirt quilt. I also found Larry's favorite blankie which I thought I had lost. A couple of old skirts, I can't believe that I was ever that small. Most was not even fit to be rags so will go in the trash after the trash man comes Tuesday.

I've spent the morning cutting up the old cotton shirts that I've been saving for the memory quilt. There are a couple more bags of old clothes in the attic that I need to go through and then I think I will start on the quilt.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 128

Well the the person that bid on my puzzle hasn't paid yet so I don't know when I'll be able to send it out. So for yesterday's post I went through a bag of old clothes in the attic. They must have been old clothes I was saving for rags because most of these were in such bad shape that they won't even make good rags. I did find 3 of Lawrence's old dress shirts that I can get some fabric from for the memory quilt but the rest go in the trash.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 127

Somehow I managed to run out of time yesterday to do any de-cluttering. So once again I'll do 2 posts today. For yesterday I pulled out two bags of draperies from the attic. That will do it for the draperies I think. There are still bags of stuff that I don't know what they are to go through. I'll do those on a different day. I have a small problem. The trash guy didn't come Tuesday. Well he did come but we had the driveway blocked getting our solar panels delivered so he couldn't get down to the trash. But since he didn't pick up, all my trash cans are full so I don't have anywhere to throw away anything else I pull out of the attic. Trash won't be picked up again until next Tuesday. I'll figure out something though.

I'll post today's post later. Someone finally bid on my puzzle that I have on ebay. The auction closes in a few hours. If they go ahead and pay then I'll ship it out today and that will be my post, otherwise I'll have to find something else.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 126

Today I took some of my and my daughter's old riding gear to the consignment shop. Most of it I've mentioned in posts before so I can't take credit for all of it but there was a jacket that was not mentioned before. Unfortunately, they wouldn't take all of it. Some of the breeches had too many stains. There is one pair that I will work on to get the stains out but the other two go in the trash. There was a shirt that I might can get the stains off the collar and then they'll take it as well.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 125

I threw away another trash bag full of draperies that have been hiding out in the attic for years.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 123 & 124

I ran out of time yesterday so didn't do any de-cluttering. So this post will be for yesterday and today.
We are putting solar panels on the roof. This will involve running wires through the attic. There is a lot of junk in the attic which was semi organized at one time but isn't anymore. So to day I finally decided to get rid of a lot of the junk up there. For yesterday, I found a bag of girl shoes to donate. For today I am throwing away some old curtains. I also found a bag of fabric scraps that I need to go through to see what can be used.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 122

I went though the bottom drawer today and found some more papers to recycle. I think tomorrow it will be time to move on to another room.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 121

I went through the 2nd from the top drawer of my filing cabinet today. Got rid of a small stack of papers to go in the recycle bin. Found some copies of very old resumes that can go in the stack of paper I keep for notes.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 120

Today marks the 4 month anniversary of De-cluttering. This week has been kind of hard to find stuff. I hope that doesn't bode ill for the 8 months I have left. But I did find some paper work from 2003 to put in the recycle bin. There are other papers that need to be gotten rid of but they need to be shredded and my shredder doesn't work so good anymore. The good news is that in going through all the stuff in the closet I did find a bunch of file folders from where I went through and got rid of a log of old paper work last year. I thought I had a bunch of file folders but couldn't remember what happened to them. I was just about to go out and buy more. Glad I didn't.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 119

Today I consolidated my picture hanging stuff from 4 containers into 1 and threw away a box of old curtain rod hanging hardware. The curtains and curtain rods that they went with were disposed of years ago.

Monday, June 13, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 118

I'm still going through my office closet. Mostly today consisted of consolidating things and getting rid of packaging materials, recycling what could be recycled and throwing away the rest. I also found drapery hardware that I saved when I took down the old drapes in our bedroom and office. The metal drapery hooks I can save but the plastic pieces went in the trash. The middle shelf is much emptier now. I still need to organize and consolidate the top shelf which I will do tomorrow. The bottom shelf comes next. It has pictures and more school supplies on it. I'm not looking forward to going through all of that.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 116

For today, I've found 6 stretchy book covers, 4 still in the packaging. I will donate these to the women's shelter. My understanding is that a lot of these women have children and they might be able to use them.

Friday, June 10, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 115

For today, I've chosen an old walkman. I think I will donate that to Goodwill. I've also chosen a toy flashlight to throw away.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 117

And for today, more school supplies. This time 3 packages of No. 2 pencils that have never been opened. Another nice donation to the women's shelter.

This was supposed to be posted on Sunday but somehow got posted on Thursday.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 114

Today I moved to the closet in my office. I have selected 3 old toy cameras to be disposed of. I can't imagine that anyone would want them nor will they ever be valuable so I will trash them.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 113

I have finally decided what to do with the stack of old bed linens that have been sitting in my office for several years now. Understand that these are old, old sheets that I removed from the linen closet over two years ago to cover some plants because of a late freeze. I washed them afterwards and stacked them in my office. My plan was to cut them into strips to make rag rugs out of. But after cutting up one, I've not had the motivation to do any more. So I've realized that that won't happen now. But they are still useful as plant coverings in the event we have another late freeze. They will also be useful when moving furniture and stuff like that though I don't anticipate needing to do that anytime soon. So, I've put them in a large bag and moved them to the basement. So, while I haven't really gotten rid of anything, I've made a decision about where they need to be and put them there.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 112

I finished going though the box today. I found one paper back book and another cookbook to give away to Goodwill. The rest are all horse and training related books, some are classics. I'll be keeping them.

Monday, June 6, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 111

I started on the 2nd box of stuff that I got from Aunt Roberta last year. I found a cookbook to donate to Goodwill and a bunch of papers that will go in the recycle bin. There's more in the box but I've run out of time.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 110

Lawrence went though all the pool toys today getting ready for pool season (which has already started). We still had an old life vest that belonged to DD when she was a toddler. Needless to say it is no longer usable. In the trash it goes.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 109

I missed yesterday. Just got busy and kept forgetting. So this post is for Saturday. I went through the first box of stuff I got from Aunt Roberta last year. Found some interesting things that I'll keep but also found some stuff to get rid of. There were about 10 recipe cards that I'll recycle and an old book on by pass surgery that I will donate to Goodwill.

Friday, June 3, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 108

Spent one more day on the shelves and decided to donate 3 books to Goodwill. They are books I bought from the library and now that I'm finished with them, I don't think they want them back. Since they are SF I'll donate them to GW instead of the women's shelter.

Thursday, June 2, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 107

Today I was able to get rid of a bunch of things that we were storing for the GDCTA, a horse club I belong to. The club has rented a storage unit so that we can try and get everything in one place instead of strewn about town in various peoples houses.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 106

Stayed really busy today so didn't get time to look for something so the last of the Domino manuals will go in the recycle bin today. But, now I have room on the shelves to put more books so tomorrow I will start on the 2 big boxes of books that I got from Aunt Roberta last year. I'm sure that there will be more to give away in them.

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 105

Today was a big day. We sold the Jaguar and the man came and picked it up today. It was a 1966 E-type that Lawrence has had since 1983. We've talked about selling it off and on for years and finally did it. Definitely counts as decluttering.

Monday, May 30, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 104

It's amazing some of the things I'm finding. Today I'm putting a couple of floppy disks in the trash. A composition book with notes on how to set up networks goes in the recycle bin. And finally some cd's that are apparently backups of my computer in 2005 and 2006. They can go in the trash too.

Sunday, May 29, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 103

Still working on that 3rd shelf. I've put a couple of books up for sale on Half.com. I can't count those though until they sell or I give up on them and donate them to the library. But I did find some things to get rid of. A set of music cds that are just excerpts of classics. I'm throwing away the cd's, recycling the paper lining and box and keeping the cases for future use. I did find one book as well to donate. I will donate it to the women's shelter. It's a free romance book I got a long time ago and never read.

Saturday, May 28, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 102

Moved on to the 3rd shelf. There are 5 books that Barbara Pettey gave me to read at Thanksgiving last year. I am now returning them.

Friday, May 27, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 101

Still working on that top shelf. Moved on to old software. I have 10 years of Turbo Taxes. I will keep them all but I will get rid of the packaging that they came in, most of which is recyclable. That saves a lot of room on the shelf. Did the same with a lot of other software that was sitting on the shelf. Will recycle most of the excess packaging. Threw away some of the cd's for software that won't run on any of our computers. Turns out you cannot easily recycle the cd's.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 100

Post 100. This is quite a milestone.
Worked on the top shelf of the bookshelf again today. Found 5 more books to get rid of. 3 on Java 1.1. Larry says they are on about version 6 of Java now and very little from any version before 4 should be used. An old Visual C++ manual and a book on Corba also went in the recycle bin.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 99

I picked a couple more Lotus Domino manuals off the shelf and put them in the recycle bin. Also found the CD with the manuals on them. It will go in the trash.

Last day of double digits. On to triple digits. I'm so proud of myself for keeping up with this so well. Just 265 days to go.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 98

Today I will be donating 10 music CD's. These are CD's I got from my mother's house when she passed. They are mostly old stuff or country music which I do not like. I think these would best go to Goodwill.

Monday, May 23, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 97

Today I found two books that I've had  for a long time but that I didn't really like. I've tried selling them on Half.com a long time ago but didn't get any takers so I think I will donate them to the library.

Sunday, May 22, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 96

Today I needed some file folders for keeping track of rider report forms. I'm trying to not have to go buy any. So I went though one of the filing cabinet drawers and was able to find about 8 that were being used to file old financial papers. By old I mean 8 to 10 years old receipts. The old paper went in the recycle bin and the file folders are being reused by me. I'm sure I'll have to do this again soon. For one, the drawer needs cleaning out, there are  more old bank and CC statements in there but they need to be shredded and I don't feel like it today. Still exhausted from the horse show. It was really hot. And summer isn't really here yet.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 95

My husband went through one of the kitchen cabinets and cleared out a bunch of cheese containers that we save to store leftovers in. He put a couple dozen in the recycle bin. We still have more than enough to continue to use for leftovers. This counts for Saturday.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 94

I've been at a horse show for the last 2 days so I have to do those posts today. This is for Friday. Two more domino manuals and a domino study guide go into the recycle bin.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 93

I pulled a couple more books off the shelves today to put in the recycle bin. A Lex and Yacc reference manual, an assembly language programming manual and an old Red Hat Linux book. Also a old printer manual for a printer I no longer have.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 92

I'm working on the 2nd set of bookshelves in my office. I found 3 books to recycle. 2 on Peachtree Accounting and one called "Smartsuite for Dummies".

Monday, May 16, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 91

I'm doing Tuesday's blog report a day early because I don't think I will have time to do it tomorrow and while looking for a recipe book, I decided to get rid of some of the ones I don't use or have never used. There is a cabinet in our kitchen that is stuffed full of recipe books and loose recipes. I found a small stack of papers and a few books to recycle. And then there are about 10 books that I will donate, either to the library, the woman's shelter or to Goodwill. I haven't decided yet but will later today. There were 3 recipe booklets that  I want to go through before I toss them as well. Any recipes I find that I like will be torn out of the booklet and put in my main recipe book. The one with stuff I actually cook on a regular basis. Most of the recipes in it came from the internet and not a book

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 90

I've reached a new milestone. Today is post number 90. I've been doing this 3 months, a quarter of a year. I think that's pretty good. Still a long way to go and a lot yet to get rid of. Today another old technical manual goes into the recycle bin. This one is the "Professional Developer's Guide to Domino".

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 89

A couple of days ago the mailman left a grocery sack in the mailbox. The mail carriers where having a food drive Saturday. So, yesterday I went through the pantry and found a couple of things that had been in there for a while and put them in the bag and hung them on the mailbox. Three non-perishable food items donated.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 88

Big day today. Last summer Lawrence went through all his electronics in the basement and finally decided that some had to go. Unfortunately it is difficult to find someplace that will take them. So there has been a pile of old computer parts, monitors, printers and an old TV sitting in the middle of the game room floor since then. We missed the fall amnesty day where the recycle center would take all this stuff. The spring one was supposed to be today but sometime between when I found that out last winter and now they changed the date to last Saturday. Fortunately, the City of Woodstock had one today and all the stuff went away. We had to pay for them to take the TV but the rest they took for free. It sure is nice to not have that pile sitting in the game room any more.

Friday, May 13, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 87

Now I think I'm caught up. Today I will put a couple of old reference books in the recycle bin. A book on the 2005 PSAT and the HP ScanJet user's guide. Clearly out of date and no longer useful.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 85 & 86

This post is for Wednesday and Thursday. Something happened to my post on Wednesday. I know I did it but it isn't showing up so I guess I'll record what I did for that day today. I put another Domino book in the recycle bin. I got really busy yesterday and didn't get a chance to write my post until today. I gave 2 party favors (small craft kits), left over from one of my daughters birthday parties many years ago, to my dance teacher's daughters. They've been in the closet in my office all these years and it's time the went. The girls really loved them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 84

I was really tired to day (and busy) so I didn't feel like working hard on de-cluttering. So I just pulled another Domino manual off the shelf to put in the recycle bin.

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 84

I took a look in the hall closet today. I'll probably find quite a bit in there but for today I chose a pair of pink nylon pants to donate. They are too small. I'll have to decide whether or not to donate the jacket that goes with it as it still fits I think. It's in another closet so I'll have to go find it.

Monday, May 9, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 83

Well I couldn't find anything in the linen closet to get rid of. I went through it a couple of years ago and cleared out all the old sheets. Unfortunately they are sitting in my office. My intention was to cut them up into strips and crochet them into rag rugs but after doing one, I decided that that was too much trouble. I haven't decided yet what I will do with them so I will reserve that for another post on another day.

For today I found some perfume, never used, on my dresser along with an empty jewelry? box. The perfume I will donate and the box goes in the trash.

Sunday, May 8, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 82

Today I went through the top drawer in the bathroom. Mostly this has been an exercise in throwing stuff away that has been in these drawers for years. I found some Vitamins that were almost 20 years old. So I organized some stuff, through some stuff away and found almost 2 dozen tooth brushes still in their original packaging that were freebies from the dentist. I will donate a bunch to the women's shelter and save the rest.

In cleaning out these drawers I found some lotions and bath things that I've been saving for who knows what. I think that I will start using them instead. Another great way to de-clutter though I don't think I will use them for a blog post unless I get desperate for something to blog about or I finally use all of them.

Tomorrow I move to the linen closet and then it will be a good time to really clean the bathroom. Don't want to do that today since it is Mother's Day. No house cleaning on Mother's Day.

Saturday, May 7, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 81

I went through the middle drawer today. More of the same along with old toothbrushes, mostly empty bottles of lotion and shampoo. All trash. So now there is a lot more room in the drawer and I was able to organize things. I used a nice box I was saving for something to hold all the bottles of perfume and cologne that we never use but that I couldn't see throwing out. I guess I should donate the one or two that haven't been opened now that I think about it. Yes, I'll do that.

Friday, May 6, 2011

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 80

In the drawer I went through yesterday I found some very old prescription meds. Pain killers mostly from when various family members had to have oral surgery. Why I filled them I don't know and why they gave me prescriptions for a 30 tablets is even more a mystery. Frankly, the pain doesn't last that long and really wasn't that intense, I didn't use any of them. But I know you aren't supposed to just throw them away either. So I did some research. Basically, the USDA says you can just flush them down the toilet but conservation groups say no. Their recommendation is to desolve them in water, put the result in an opaque container and throw in the trash. That's for pill. For liquids, it recommends that you put it in something inedible like cat litter and then throw it in the trash. I have some dexamethazone that is in liquid form that I will do that with. That is what I'm discarding today.

Thursday, May 5, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 79

I started on the bottom drawer in the bath room today. For some reason I thought it might be the easiest. I threw out a bunch of stuff. Too much to list here but primarily old, almost empty bottles of OTC meds, about a dozen pairs of old glasses and old travel sized bottles of shampoos and conditioners.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 78

Yesterday I took a bunch of stuff to the Women's shelter. All the stuff is stuff mentioned in previous posts so don't count for today. I had my MG office orientation yesterday and the shelter is on the way. Now that I will be going in to do my hours at the MG office, I will be getting by the shelter more often. That's good. I can get rid of the donated stuff much quicker that way.

Today I cleared out the cabinet under my husband's sink. Oh boy, I can't believe what was still in there. Medical supplies brought home from my last child's birth. My youngest will be 20 in July. Needless to say they go in the trash. There was also some feminine protection, broken toilet fixtures and empty packaging as well. Mostly trash that some how hadn't made it into the trash. But now it's gone. Yay. Now on to the drawers. There are 3 of them. That should take me through the rest of the week.

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 77

This post should catch me up. I moved to the master bathroom today. Specifically the cabinet under my sink. I found a box with a few tampons in it, a box with a few Today sponges and a pregnancy test kit. Well, since I'm in menopause I won't be needing those things anymore. :-) (and they are way out of date so my daughter won't be able to use them either.)

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 76

This is for Monday's post. I threw away a scented bear that has been sitting in the den for about 3 years. It lost it's scent a long time ago.

Monday, May 2, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 76

Still in the same drawer. I decided it was way past time to get rid of the jewelry and watch boxes that I've been keeping forever. I kept a few that had watches that I think we still have and use but the rest can go in the trash.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 75

I was at a horse show all weekend so this post is late. I have to try and do 3 today.

I found some rocks to throw away. Many years ago when Larry was in elementary school I went with him on a field trip. We went somewhere in north Ga to a mine where they let you pan for gold. We did and brought back the "gems" that we found. They've been in the drawer in the wardrobe where I keep the sweaters since then. I think it is time that they were moved out of the house.

Thursday, April 28, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 74

One of Lawrence's sweaters didn't come completely clean, there is a spaghetti sauce stain on the front. Since I've run out of room on the two shelves reserved for his sweaters, I think I will give it away. The stain is very small so is easily usable for an around the house sweater so I don't feel bad about donating it. If they don't think it is useable then they can throw it away.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 73

I washed a whole bunch of Lawrence's sweaters yesterday. Apparently he wear most of them at least once last winter. I could only get him to give up one. It will be donated.

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 72

I pulled a couple of old Lotus Domino books off the shelf. I checked ebay and half.com and on one appears to want these. No surprise since these books are release 5 and Domino is up to release 8 now. Into the recycle bin they go.

Monday, April 25, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 71

I found one of Ky's riding jackets in the closet. It along with some of the other riding clothes I found earlier will go to the consignment shop. I tried to drop them off today but it was closed. I'll have to try and get by their later.

Sunday, April 24, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 70

I moved back to the bedroom and worked on the 2nd shelf of sweaters. I found 3 that I will donate. One is dry clean only, hah. The other two I just don't like. There's nothing really wrong with them, I just don't like the way they fit. Perhaps someone else will be able to get some use out of them

Saturday, April 23, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 69

Last year my Aunt gave me a bunch of stuff from her apartment. She was trying to declutter as well. Unfortunately, that just means a lot made it into my house. So now I have to figure out what to do with it all. Mostly it will go in the trash though the books may go to the library. Anyway, today is the day that one item goes in the trash. It is a craft project that I know I will never finish and even if I did, I would never hang up. So out of my office and into the trash it goes.

Friday, April 22, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 68

Today I'm back in my bedroom. Started in on the cedar chest and boy did I find a lot to get rid of. A riding shirt will go in the scrap pile. 2 cheap gifts I bought for quick presents (a wallet and watch) will go in the donate pile. And a whole lot of old craft stuff that I am throwing away. But now there is room for more stuff. I think most of my craft stuff that I want to keep and I have stashed in other places, like my closet, can to in the chest.

Thursday, April 21, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 67

Bottom shelf. The whole shelf has old binders that aren't being used for anything any more. Three are in poor condition so I'm throwing them away. Some still had papers in them that will be recycled. I have plans for most of the others that are still in good shape.

I'm happier now. There is still a lot to get rid of in here but at least I can tell a difference now.

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 66

3rd shelf. Someone, many years ago gave Larry a Veggie Tales book bag because it had "Larry" on the tags. I'm guessing Larry is a character in the cartoons? Anyway, it still has tags. I'm putting it in the pile of stuff to take to my niece for her twin girls. If she doesn't want it, then it will be donated.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 65

2nd shelf - found 7 books to donate to the library.

Monday, April 18, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 64

Moved to my book shelves. I now have a bag of pamphlets and more paper to recycle.

Sunday, April 17, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 63

Today I am getting rid of the rest of the phone books.

Yesterday we finally went to the recycle place and got rid of the huge pile of recycling that has accumulated in the last few months. Now there is room for more.

Friday, April 15, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 62

My office has finally gotten to the point where I have to start de-cluttering it or I will go crazy. Part of the problem is that a lot of the stuff that I'm collecting to donate is taking up a lot of room but that's not the part that is driving me crazy.

Today I cleaned off my desks. I collected a whole box of papers to recycle.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 61

Back to the sweaters. I'm throwing 2 away, they are just to dirty to give away. I'm giving 2 away. One is just a little too small around the neck area and the other I just don't like the way it fits.

Thursday, April 14, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 60

Well I started on sweaters today. I have shelves full of sweaters most of which I don't wear. I'll do one shelf a day. On the first shelf, I put a bunch of them in the wash. How they turn out will determine what I do with them. In the meantime, I'm also cleaning up in my office. I found a paper back book that I've had for years but only recently read. It is now in the recycle bin. So that is my post for today, I'll make a final determination on the first shelf of sweaters for tomorrow since washing and drying will take most of the day.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 59

I came in here several times yesterday to make this post but managed to forget what I meant to do. Yesterday I put 2 more phone books in the recycle bin.
There. Done. Now to find something for today.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 58

Last drawer under the bed. I found two pair of winder socks that the elastic is shot in. They go in the trash. I also found a pair of tiny tiny mittens and sun glasses. Looks like something my niece might could use with her twins so I will send them to her if she wants them, otherwise I'll donate them. There was also one of those hair rag things which is going in the trash.

So now I'm caught up with the de-cluttering. Woot.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 57

In drawer number 5, I found more ski clothes. Out of this drawer, I'm donating a cute, hardly used pink knit cap and matching gloves. Again, too small for anyone in the family.

I think I only have one more post to go to catch up. Stay tuned.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 56

5th post for  today, 2 to go.

I started back on the drawers under the bed. Drawer 4  has a few winter/ski things in it. I found 1 pair of pink ski gloves that are too small for anyone in my family. They are cute and don't look like they were every used. Into the donate pile they go.

I finished up the laundry I started yesterday today. It is so nice not to have to scrounge for hangars anymore.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 55

Post number 4, 3 more to go.

2 out of date phone books and 2 out of date calendars into the recycle bin they go.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 54

Third post for today. 4 more to go.

Donating a pair of shoes that I got from my mother several years ago. I've worn them once, they don't really fit me well. While they are not in great shape, they are still usable.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 53

For day 53 we have two holey sports bras that are now in the trash. 5 days to go before I catch up.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 52

Last weekend was a horse show weekend. I was in Conyers for 4 days and recovering for 1 day and I missed the previous day so I have a lot of catching up to do. That means I have to do 7 posts today. Here is the first one.

One sweat shirt. It is the one I got when I worked at my kid's middle school. All the seams have holes so it isn't suitable for donation but will go great in my t-shirt quilt. Out of my closet and into the future quilt pile it goes.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 51

I finished going through the 2nd drawer today. Most are Lawrence's shirts from before we were married. 7 will go in the future memory quilt scrap pile and 5 will go in the give away pile though they will probably end up in the trash since I can't see anyone wanting them. They are all old polo shirts. There were 4 more shirts that are really just mesh coverups that we bought for the kids when they were playing soccer. I'm giving them away as well.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 50

Alright. Day 50. Feels like a milestone though there are 315 days to go. Moved to the second drawer of 6 under the bed. It will take two days for this drawer. Pulled out one purse to give away, one for scraps (I made both of these) and a pair of Lawrence's really old shorts. The shorts go in the trash. The rest of the stuff in the drawers I will have to go through more carefully as it is full of old t-shirts and things that I don't really even remember.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 49

I finished up some laundry today and found 3 more pair of underwear with holes in them. In to the trash they go.

Saturday, April 2, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 48

I moved to the drawers under the bed today. There are six drawers. I'll do one each day. The first one has purses in it. Old purses. I will give 2 away, 1 goes in the trash and 1 wallet that will go in the donate pile too.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 47

And now I've caught up. Today I went through hubbies undershirts and found 2 that can go in the rag bag. I thought there would be more. I'm not sure what he's done with the rest of his under shirts. Maybe he has already gotten rid of some of them because I know that the last time I did laundry the drawer was jammed with them but now it's not and I know that 2 shirts couldn't make that much of a difference. Hmmm.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 46

For Thursday, we have 6 pair of underwear with holes in them. These would be my husbands underwear and in the trash they go.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 45

So I've got to do 3 posts today. If there is one thing I've learned it is that if I don't do this in the morning early, then I get busy and don't get to it at all. So today is catch up day. I'm going to make it 3 separate posts though.

So for Wednesday, I moved to the middle bottom drawer where there were more 30 year old socks. All but two are now in the trash. All but one were knee socks which I haven't worn in 20 years. I kept the non-knee sock and one pair of knee socks just in case. But the good news is that that drawer is now empty. I'll have to find something to put in it. Hmmm.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 44

Today I looked in the middle-middle drawer. I found 4 pair of knee socks that are about 30+ years old. In the trash they go. There was also an old knitted scarf that will go in the donate pile. There are still several pairs of socks in the drawer but they belong to Lawrence. I don't think he will ever wear them but I left them there anyway. I may move them to one of his other sock drawers which will free up that drawer though I don't know what I will put in it.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 43

I'm tired of the closet so I moved on to my dresser. Top middle drawer. Found 3 chokers, two to throw away, one still looks good so will go with the other horse stuff that I've yet to determine how to get rid of. A piece of ribbon that goes with the sewing stuff, a scarf to give away and one to put in the sewing scraps pile.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 42

Belts. I have lots of belts that I never, ever wear. I've put 6 in the donate pile and 7 I will keep for the hardware. I have some ideas about making some belts to give away and/or sell.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 41

Started going through the dresses today. Found 2 to donate. Both were dresses I purchased at Goodwill. One was a long dress for an awards banquet and the other was a black dress I bought for dancing. I don't really like either one so it isn't hard to part with them.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 40

40 days. Woohoo. Today I went through my shoes and found a pair of slippers and a pair of flip flops that I never wear. I hate flip flops they hurt my feet and are hard to keep on and I prefer to just go around the house in socks. It wears them out faster but my feet sweat too much in slippers. I kept one pair to wear if I go somewhere and feel that it would be appropriate to wear them but I only need one pair so the other one goes away. I will donate them both.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 38 & 39

Just plain forget yesterday. So today I have a pair of old tennis shoes that should have been thrown away a long time ago. That counts for yesterday. For today I put an old dress (only worn a few times but 25+ years old) in the donate pile.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 37

Today I found 2 more pair of jeans that have to go in the future quilt pile. They both had holes in the seat so even though they were in good condition otherwise, they can't be worn.

Monday, March 21, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 34, 35, 36

I was at an Axel Steiner clinic helping out all weekend. It was fun but I'm tired and I didn't even do that much. Very educational though. That means, however, that this is a 3 day post.

Day 34 - throw away 2 old, old bathing suits. They are faded and worn and too small. Don't know why they are still in the closet but that's what this is all about.
Day 35 - Donate another pair of shorts that are slightly too small but in very good condition. Weren't in the short pile so don't know what was up with that.
Day 36 - donate 2 pair of leotards. Way to small, they show all my bumps. In pretty good condition so I'll donate them. I hope they aren't considered underwear which are pretty gross as donation items.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 33

Today I threw away a pair of tights. The elastic was shot.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 31 & 32

Yesterday I threw away a fleece jacket that the zipper broke on months ago. Today I threw away a paperback book that I just finished reading. The front page had been torn off so it isn't really suitable to donate.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 30

Today I found my daughters sleep mat from kindergarten in the closet. She is in college now. I think it will be ok to throw it away. It's sort of falling apart so wouldn't be usable for any future grandkids (assuming I ever have any) anyway.

Monday, March 14, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 29

Bags. A bag full of bags. Gift bags that is. Put about 1/4 of the gift bags that I've been saving for years in the recycle bin. Must remember that I have them and to use them, especially for Christmas presents.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 28

The last things to go through of my Mother's consisted of 2 black skirts and 2 black jackets. The skirts are way too tight. The jackets fit but I'll only keep one of them. So today I'm getting rid of 2 skirts and a jacket. I guess I'll donate them. The consignment shops that I know about aren't taking suits. Go figure.

So this makes 4 weeks. I'm still not done with the closet. After the closet comes 2 chests of drawers, the drawers under the bed, the cedar chest, then the bathroom. This will all probably take another month. Then there's the den, kitchen, dining room, my office, the game room and Lawrence's office. Oh, and then there is the whole upstairs. Yeah, I think I'll have enough to keep this up for a year.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 27

I've finally gotten back to the clothes that I inherited from my Mother. I think I will end up keeping most of the blouses. I've put together outfits with the 3 skirts I kept and the rest of the blouses will go with the pants that still fit. While I don't expect to start working full time anytime soon, I will start officially working recognized horse shows in April and will need to look a little more professional than my usual attire which is jeans and a t-shirt. Since I will mostly be in the show office I need to wear something nicer. However, I did decide that the pink jacket can go. I have nothing to wear it with and I'm sure I will never wear it even if I did. I may take it to a consignment shop and see if I can sell it. Otherwise I will donate it.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 25 & 26

I have my Master Gardner class on Thursday which  makes it hard to do a post on that day. But yesterday I mostly just got side tracked with other things when I got home. So once again, I'll do yesterday's and today's in one post.

For yesterday, I have 3 tops to give away. These are squiny (I know, not a real word) that my neighbor gave me for dancing. They didn't really fit then, they don't really fit now and show way too much skin. If my figure were better and I was 10+ years younger, then maybe.

For today, a red jacket. This was the jacket I wore when we got married. I guess I gave the skirt and top away years ago. It's pretty worn out even though I haven't worn it in years. I think I will incorporate it into my memory quilt even though the fabric is a very different texture than the rest. But I think the memory that it represents is important enough to make it fit somehow.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 24

Skirts today. 1 for the scrap bag, 2 two donate and 3 to keep.

Finally made it to the Woman's shelter today. I had two large bags of clothes to give. Now we'll start all over.

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 22&23

I kept getting distracted yesterday. I picked out something to give away and then kept getting sidetracked every time I came in here to post. So yesterday I picked out a sequined skirt to give away. This was something that my neighbor gave me for a cruise we went on a few years back. I didn't wear it then and I won't ever wear it.
Today I went through a few more pairs of riding britches and some capri pants. The white britches still fit, the black ones don't. I'll take them to the consignment shop. All but one of the capri pants still fit. Of the one that doesn't, it has blue stains all over one leg. So in the stack of scraps it goes.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 20 & 21

Was at a horse show all weekend so didn't get to writing up the blog post for yesterday.
Yesterday I put a t-shirt that came out of the laundry with holes in it into the rag bag.
Today I put a red sweater in the donate pile. I have to go to the woman's shelter tomorrow and give them the stuff. The pile is getting unwieldy.

Friday, March 4, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 19

Today I went through the rest of my riding pants. Turns out one pair was Ky's. I'll try to sell them. Can't count them until they are gone. My black pair I will try to sell as well. Not sure what to do with the 3rd pair of white breeches that doesn't fit. They are 30+ years old, but other than having yellowed a bit, they are in amazingly good shape. I'll have to think on that one. So, for today, I found another pair of shoes that I've worn about once but don't like. They felt comfortable in the store but weren't after wearing for a while. They are also backless which I find hard to wear. So in the donate pile they go.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 18

Whew, almost forgot today. I have my Master Gardner class on Thursdays so I don't have as much time as I would normally so I save stuff that I know will require little or no thought for those days. But I almost forgot anyway. I pulled out a pair of shoes that I don't recall ever wearing, where I got them or anything. They have been worn but clearly not often. I'm donating them.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 17

Today I found 2 blouses to donate and a show shirt that belonged to Ky that I will take to the consignment shop.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 16

Today I pulled out 4 shirts to give away. Nuff said.

Monday, February 28, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 15

Today I went through the rest of the jeans that I haven't tried on yet. 3 pair, none fit. However, they are all actually men's jeans so I will see if Lawrence can wear them. If he can't or doesn't want them then they will have to go in the quilt pile as they are too worn to give away. So, I then went through my barn t-shirts. These are t-shirts that for one reason or another I don't typically wear when I leave the property. Turns out some are still quite clean and usable but that I haven't worn in years and years. They all have some sentimental value (a couple are from the olympics and one that has Ky's hand and foot prints painted on) so they will all go toward a t-shirt quilt. There were 5 of them. The rest I will still wear. So nothing really left the house today but did get re-purposed and they are out of my closet.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 14

2 weeks and still going strong.

Today it is jeans. A green pair, a pink pair and a white pair of jeans all to be donated. They were hardly worn and are waaayy too small now. Have I really gained that much weight? Of course they are 15 years old. There was another pair of white jeans that are too stained to donate so I will use them in the jean quilt I will make someday.

50 weeks to go.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 13

Went through a pile of shorts today. The weather here has been beautiful. I was wearing shorts last weekend, will probably get warm enough again this weekend for shorts. Woot!!!

Anyway, I found 2 pair to give away (too small but still in good shape), 3 pair to throw away ( the elastic is shot and there is nothing worth saving) and 3 pair to put in the scrap pile. One of these pairs just needs buttons. If I find buttons that will do they may go in the donate pile.

I did laundry yesterday. Usually I barely have enough hangers to hang everything up. Not yesterday. I have more than enough now. Another place that I can really see that I'm accomplishing something.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 12

Today I pulled 5 pairs of dressy pants out of the closet. I haven't worn these in I don't know how many years. Since I don't work, I don't have much occasion to wear slacks. Needless to say, I've gained a little weight in the intervening years. Three pair are going to the woman's shelter and 2 I will keep. The last 2 almost fit, just a little tight around the waist. They may end up going away but for now I'm keeping them. They are all in very good condition, I'm not at all ashamed to give them away, other than the embarrassment of the weight I've gained.

Thursday, February 24, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 11

I found a small pile of mismatched socks in the closet today. Into the rag bag they go.

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 10

Made it to double digits today. Pulled 5 things out of the closet today. 1 pair of khaki pants will be donated, they were too small and in very good shape. One pair of jeans and a pair of lined pants are too worn out to donate so will go in the recycle pile and one shirt has also been cut up for use in a quilt. One pair of riding pants still fit so they stay. I usually ride in tights but the ones I have are wearing out. Instead of buying new ones I will start using the riding pants I already have that still fit even if I think they are ugly.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 9

Finished up the pile of clothes in the back of the closet. One shirt to cut up for the quilt, sweat shirt to throw away, a couple of pairs of shorts to donate and a comforter that will be saved for either donating or using to cover stuff outside when needed. Tomorrow I will start on clothes hanging on my side of the closet. That should take several days.

Monday, February 21, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 8

More of the same today. Very little to throw away or donate, though I did find 2 things to donate. The rest, mostly shirts, will go toward the quilt. Now to go start cutting them up so that they will take up less room.

Sunday, February 20, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 7

Day 7 already. Wow. 51 weeks to go. Ugh.

A couple of months ago, my husband went through all his clothes and separated out the ones he no longer wanted. I've been meaning to go through them for a while now to further separate it into what could be donated, thrown away or salvaged for scraps for a future memory quilt. I finally started on that pile today. I'm not done but part of spreading the de-cluttering out over a year is so that none of it takes up much time each day. So I found about 5 things to donate, about 5 things to throw away and 5 things to recycle into a future sewing project. I think that is enough for today, I'll do some more tomorrow.

Saturday, February 19, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 6

Today was not as hard but I had the same sorts of feelings. Today I got rid of 2 saddle pads. We've had them for years, I've repaired and patched them before but I finally decided they were too far gone now. It hasn't made sense to keep them as I have 2 saddle pads still in the plastic that I've also had for years. I haven't used them because they are not white. I was saving them for a special occasion, perhaps to school at a show, but I haven't shown in several years and don't plan to anytime soon. But they're so pretty. When I pulled them out, I remembered why I haven't used them before. They are almost to pretty to use. But, it doesn't make sense to keep something that you're not going to use, so out they come and on the horse they go.

While in general I can't see much difference with what I've done so far it is nice to open that sock drawer and see how neat and uncluttered it is now. And when I put up the laundry today, I didn't have to search so hard for hangars.

Friday, February 18, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 5

Today was hard. I was going out to run some errands so thought I would go by and take the comforter that I had decided to donate but I wanted to put some other things with it. Since I was going to take it to the Women's shelter I wanted to take some clothes as well. Well, now I remember why all those clothes are still in my closet. Most are some of my Mother's work clothes, which means they are quite old but in very good condition. They don't really have much sentimental value but they are all pretty. I don't work so don't really have much opportunity to wear them but I still hate to get rid of them. I thought it would be easy, but it's not. I picked out 2 blouses that I know I will never wear and a knitted skirt and top that I've worn once but not in a looonnng time. Then it turns out the women's shelter isn't open on Friday so they ended up at Goodwill. I wasn't bringing them back home.

My current plan now is to go through those clothes and pick out 2 outfits that fit and donate the rest or cut them up for a quilt, but that will count for another day.

Thursday, February 17, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 4

Socks. Lots of socks. Socks I've owned for 30 years and probably haven't worn is 25 years. Most aren't that old but all are socks I haven't worn in years. Just taking up room in the sock drawer. These will be put in the rag bag. So I guess they aren't leaving the house but just moving to another place but I think it still counts since they are out of my drawer and are being put in a place where they might be used eventually. I may decide later to just throw them away.

In other news, I had my Master Gardener mid-term today. Made a 100. Missed 2 questions but got 2 bonus questions. Woot.

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 3

Today I'm donating a twin bed comforter. I've replaced it with one I recently quilted for the trundle bed in my office. I'm not sure to what charity I will donate it to yet. It will probably end up going to Goodwill but I'll take it to the women's shelter if I can find it.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

A year of decluttering - Day 2

Today I got rid of a really old coat that the zipper is messed up on. I've been meaning to throw it away for months and today was the day it finally went in the trash. But not before I salvaged an inside zipper and the elastic in the hood and around the waste. I'm sure I'll find a project for those things sometime soon. I'm still counting that as one thing out.

Also included in that trash were two pairs of boots that were full of holes. No part of them were salvageable.

Daily De-clutter post

Today I donated 5 books to the library.

Each day for the next year, I pledge to get rid of something. Either donate something, throw something away, sell or otherwise get something out of my house. OK, so I can't make it to Goodwill every day so I will keep a box that I put stuff in to donate. It must leave the house every week however.
