365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 15

Today I went through the rest of the jeans that I haven't tried on yet. 3 pair, none fit. However, they are all actually men's jeans so I will see if Lawrence can wear them. If he can't or doesn't want them then they will have to go in the quilt pile as they are too worn to give away. So, I then went through my barn t-shirts. These are t-shirts that for one reason or another I don't typically wear when I leave the property. Turns out some are still quite clean and usable but that I haven't worn in years and years. They all have some sentimental value (a couple are from the olympics and one that has Ky's hand and foot prints painted on) so they will all go toward a t-shirt quilt. There were 5 of them. The rest I will still wear. So nothing really left the house today but did get re-purposed and they are out of my closet.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 14

2 weeks and still going strong.

Today it is jeans. A green pair, a pink pair and a white pair of jeans all to be donated. They were hardly worn and are waaayy too small now. Have I really gained that much weight? Of course they are 15 years old. There was another pair of white jeans that are too stained to donate so I will use them in the jean quilt I will make someday.

50 weeks to go.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 13

Went through a pile of shorts today. The weather here has been beautiful. I was wearing shorts last weekend, will probably get warm enough again this weekend for shorts. Woot!!!

Anyway, I found 2 pair to give away (too small but still in good shape), 3 pair to throw away ( the elastic is shot and there is nothing worth saving) and 3 pair to put in the scrap pile. One of these pairs just needs buttons. If I find buttons that will do they may go in the donate pile.

I did laundry yesterday. Usually I barely have enough hangers to hang everything up. Not yesterday. I have more than enough now. Another place that I can really see that I'm accomplishing something.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 12

Today I pulled 5 pairs of dressy pants out of the closet. I haven't worn these in I don't know how many years. Since I don't work, I don't have much occasion to wear slacks. Needless to say, I've gained a little weight in the intervening years. Three pair are going to the woman's shelter and 2 I will keep. The last 2 almost fit, just a little tight around the waist. They may end up going away but for now I'm keeping them. They are all in very good condition, I'm not at all ashamed to give them away, other than the embarrassment of the weight I've gained.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 11

I found a small pile of mismatched socks in the closet today. Into the rag bag they go.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 10

Made it to double digits today. Pulled 5 things out of the closet today. 1 pair of khaki pants will be donated, they were too small and in very good shape. One pair of jeans and a pair of lined pants are too worn out to donate so will go in the recycle pile and one shirt has also been cut up for use in a quilt. One pair of riding pants still fit so they stay. I usually ride in tights but the ones I have are wearing out. Instead of buying new ones I will start using the riding pants I already have that still fit even if I think they are ugly.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 9

Finished up the pile of clothes in the back of the closet. One shirt to cut up for the quilt, sweat shirt to throw away, a couple of pairs of shorts to donate and a comforter that will be saved for either donating or using to cover stuff outside when needed. Tomorrow I will start on clothes hanging on my side of the closet. That should take several days.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 8

More of the same today. Very little to throw away or donate, though I did find 2 things to donate. The rest, mostly shirts, will go toward the quilt. Now to go start cutting them up so that they will take up less room.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 7

Day 7 already. Wow. 51 weeks to go. Ugh.

A couple of months ago, my husband went through all his clothes and separated out the ones he no longer wanted. I've been meaning to go through them for a while now to further separate it into what could be donated, thrown away or salvaged for scraps for a future memory quilt. I finally started on that pile today. I'm not done but part of spreading the de-cluttering out over a year is so that none of it takes up much time each day. So I found about 5 things to donate, about 5 things to throw away and 5 things to recycle into a future sewing project. I think that is enough for today, I'll do some more tomorrow.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 6

Today was not as hard but I had the same sorts of feelings. Today I got rid of 2 saddle pads. We've had them for years, I've repaired and patched them before but I finally decided they were too far gone now. It hasn't made sense to keep them as I have 2 saddle pads still in the plastic that I've also had for years. I haven't used them because they are not white. I was saving them for a special occasion, perhaps to school at a show, but I haven't shown in several years and don't plan to anytime soon. But they're so pretty. When I pulled them out, I remembered why I haven't used them before. They are almost to pretty to use. But, it doesn't make sense to keep something that you're not going to use, so out they come and on the horse they go.

While in general I can't see much difference with what I've done so far it is nice to open that sock drawer and see how neat and uncluttered it is now. And when I put up the laundry today, I didn't have to search so hard for hangars.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 5

Today was hard. I was going out to run some errands so thought I would go by and take the comforter that I had decided to donate but I wanted to put some other things with it. Since I was going to take it to the Women's shelter I wanted to take some clothes as well. Well, now I remember why all those clothes are still in my closet. Most are some of my Mother's work clothes, which means they are quite old but in very good condition. They don't really have much sentimental value but they are all pretty. I don't work so don't really have much opportunity to wear them but I still hate to get rid of them. I thought it would be easy, but it's not. I picked out 2 blouses that I know I will never wear and a knitted skirt and top that I've worn once but not in a looonnng time. Then it turns out the women's shelter isn't open on Friday so they ended up at Goodwill. I wasn't bringing them back home.

My current plan now is to go through those clothes and pick out 2 outfits that fit and donate the rest or cut them up for a quilt, but that will count for another day.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 4

Socks. Lots of socks. Socks I've owned for 30 years and probably haven't worn is 25 years. Most aren't that old but all are socks I haven't worn in years. Just taking up room in the sock drawer. These will be put in the rag bag. So I guess they aren't leaving the house but just moving to another place but I think it still counts since they are out of my drawer and are being put in a place where they might be used eventually. I may decide later to just throw them away.

In other news, I had my Master Gardener mid-term today. Made a 100. Missed 2 questions but got 2 bonus questions. Woot.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 3

Today I'm donating a twin bed comforter. I've replaced it with one I recently quilted for the trundle bed in my office. I'm not sure to what charity I will donate it to yet. It will probably end up going to Goodwill but I'll take it to the women's shelter if I can find it.

A year of decluttering - Day 2

Today I got rid of a really old coat that the zipper is messed up on. I've been meaning to throw it away for months and today was the day it finally went in the trash. But not before I salvaged an inside zipper and the elastic in the hood and around the waste. I'm sure I'll find a project for those things sometime soon. I'm still counting that as one thing out.

Also included in that trash were two pairs of boots that were full of holes. No part of them were salvageable.

Daily De-clutter post

Today I donated 5 books to the library.

Each day for the next year, I pledge to get rid of something. Either donate something, throw something away, sell or otherwise get something out of my house. OK, so I can't make it to Goodwill every day so I will keep a box that I put stuff in to donate. It must leave the house every week however.
