365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 105

Today was a big day. We sold the Jaguar and the man came and picked it up today. It was a 1966 E-type that Lawrence has had since 1983. We've talked about selling it off and on for years and finally did it. Definitely counts as decluttering.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 104

It's amazing some of the things I'm finding. Today I'm putting a couple of floppy disks in the trash. A composition book with notes on how to set up networks goes in the recycle bin. And finally some cd's that are apparently backups of my computer in 2005 and 2006. They can go in the trash too.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 103

Still working on that 3rd shelf. I've put a couple of books up for sale on Half.com. I can't count those though until they sell or I give up on them and donate them to the library. But I did find some things to get rid of. A set of music cds that are just excerpts of classics. I'm throwing away the cd's, recycling the paper lining and box and keeping the cases for future use. I did find one book as well to donate. I will donate it to the women's shelter. It's a free romance book I got a long time ago and never read.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 102

Moved on to the 3rd shelf. There are 5 books that Barbara Pettey gave me to read at Thanksgiving last year. I am now returning them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 101

Still working on that top shelf. Moved on to old software. I have 10 years of Turbo Taxes. I will keep them all but I will get rid of the packaging that they came in, most of which is recyclable. That saves a lot of room on the shelf. Did the same with a lot of other software that was sitting on the shelf. Will recycle most of the excess packaging. Threw away some of the cd's for software that won't run on any of our computers. Turns out you cannot easily recycle the cd's.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 100

Post 100. This is quite a milestone.
Worked on the top shelf of the bookshelf again today. Found 5 more books to get rid of. 3 on Java 1.1. Larry says they are on about version 6 of Java now and very little from any version before 4 should be used. An old Visual C++ manual and a book on Corba also went in the recycle bin.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 99

I picked a couple more Lotus Domino manuals off the shelf and put them in the recycle bin. Also found the CD with the manuals on them. It will go in the trash.

Last day of double digits. On to triple digits. I'm so proud of myself for keeping up with this so well. Just 265 days to go.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 98

Today I will be donating 10 music CD's. These are CD's I got from my mother's house when she passed. They are mostly old stuff or country music which I do not like. I think these would best go to Goodwill.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 97

Today I found two books that I've had  for a long time but that I didn't really like. I've tried selling them on Half.com a long time ago but didn't get any takers so I think I will donate them to the library.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 96

Today I needed some file folders for keeping track of rider report forms. I'm trying to not have to go buy any. So I went though one of the filing cabinet drawers and was able to find about 8 that were being used to file old financial papers. By old I mean 8 to 10 years old receipts. The old paper went in the recycle bin and the file folders are being reused by me. I'm sure I'll have to do this again soon. For one, the drawer needs cleaning out, there are  more old bank and CC statements in there but they need to be shredded and I don't feel like it today. Still exhausted from the horse show. It was really hot. And summer isn't really here yet.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 95

My husband went through one of the kitchen cabinets and cleared out a bunch of cheese containers that we save to store leftovers in. He put a couple dozen in the recycle bin. We still have more than enough to continue to use for leftovers. This counts for Saturday.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 94

I've been at a horse show for the last 2 days so I have to do those posts today. This is for Friday. Two more domino manuals and a domino study guide go into the recycle bin.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 93

I pulled a couple more books off the shelves today to put in the recycle bin. A Lex and Yacc reference manual, an assembly language programming manual and an old Red Hat Linux book. Also a old printer manual for a printer I no longer have.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 92

I'm working on the 2nd set of bookshelves in my office. I found 3 books to recycle. 2 on Peachtree Accounting and one called "Smartsuite for Dummies".

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 91

I'm doing Tuesday's blog report a day early because I don't think I will have time to do it tomorrow and while looking for a recipe book, I decided to get rid of some of the ones I don't use or have never used. There is a cabinet in our kitchen that is stuffed full of recipe books and loose recipes. I found a small stack of papers and a few books to recycle. And then there are about 10 books that I will donate, either to the library, the woman's shelter or to Goodwill. I haven't decided yet but will later today. There were 3 recipe booklets that  I want to go through before I toss them as well. Any recipes I find that I like will be torn out of the booklet and put in my main recipe book. The one with stuff I actually cook on a regular basis. Most of the recipes in it came from the internet and not a book

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 90

I've reached a new milestone. Today is post number 90. I've been doing this 3 months, a quarter of a year. I think that's pretty good. Still a long way to go and a lot yet to get rid of. Today another old technical manual goes into the recycle bin. This one is the "Professional Developer's Guide to Domino".

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 89

A couple of days ago the mailman left a grocery sack in the mailbox. The mail carriers where having a food drive Saturday. So, yesterday I went through the pantry and found a couple of things that had been in there for a while and put them in the bag and hung them on the mailbox. Three non-perishable food items donated.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 88

Big day today. Last summer Lawrence went through all his electronics in the basement and finally decided that some had to go. Unfortunately it is difficult to find someplace that will take them. So there has been a pile of old computer parts, monitors, printers and an old TV sitting in the middle of the game room floor since then. We missed the fall amnesty day where the recycle center would take all this stuff. The spring one was supposed to be today but sometime between when I found that out last winter and now they changed the date to last Saturday. Fortunately, the City of Woodstock had one today and all the stuff went away. We had to pay for them to take the TV but the rest they took for free. It sure is nice to not have that pile sitting in the game room any more.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 87

Now I think I'm caught up. Today I will put a couple of old reference books in the recycle bin. A book on the 2005 PSAT and the HP ScanJet user's guide. Clearly out of date and no longer useful.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 85 & 86

This post is for Wednesday and Thursday. Something happened to my post on Wednesday. I know I did it but it isn't showing up so I guess I'll record what I did for that day today. I put another Domino book in the recycle bin. I got really busy yesterday and didn't get a chance to write my post until today. I gave 2 party favors (small craft kits), left over from one of my daughters birthday parties many years ago, to my dance teacher's daughters. They've been in the closet in my office all these years and it's time the went. The girls really loved them.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 84

I was really tired to day (and busy) so I didn't feel like working hard on de-cluttering. So I just pulled another Domino manual off the shelf to put in the recycle bin.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 84

I took a look in the hall closet today. I'll probably find quite a bit in there but for today I chose a pair of pink nylon pants to donate. They are too small. I'll have to decide whether or not to donate the jacket that goes with it as it still fits I think. It's in another closet so I'll have to go find it.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 83

Well I couldn't find anything in the linen closet to get rid of. I went through it a couple of years ago and cleared out all the old sheets. Unfortunately they are sitting in my office. My intention was to cut them up into strips and crochet them into rag rugs but after doing one, I decided that that was too much trouble. I haven't decided yet what I will do with them so I will reserve that for another post on another day.

For today I found some perfume, never used, on my dresser along with an empty jewelry? box. The perfume I will donate and the box goes in the trash.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 82

Today I went through the top drawer in the bathroom. Mostly this has been an exercise in throwing stuff away that has been in these drawers for years. I found some Vitamins that were almost 20 years old. So I organized some stuff, through some stuff away and found almost 2 dozen tooth brushes still in their original packaging that were freebies from the dentist. I will donate a bunch to the women's shelter and save the rest.

In cleaning out these drawers I found some lotions and bath things that I've been saving for who knows what. I think that I will start using them instead. Another great way to de-clutter though I don't think I will use them for a blog post unless I get desperate for something to blog about or I finally use all of them.

Tomorrow I move to the linen closet and then it will be a good time to really clean the bathroom. Don't want to do that today since it is Mother's Day. No house cleaning on Mother's Day.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 81

I went through the middle drawer today. More of the same along with old toothbrushes, mostly empty bottles of lotion and shampoo. All trash. So now there is a lot more room in the drawer and I was able to organize things. I used a nice box I was saving for something to hold all the bottles of perfume and cologne that we never use but that I couldn't see throwing out. I guess I should donate the one or two that haven't been opened now that I think about it. Yes, I'll do that.

365 Days of De-Cluttering: Day 80

In the drawer I went through yesterday I found some very old prescription meds. Pain killers mostly from when various family members had to have oral surgery. Why I filled them I don't know and why they gave me prescriptions for a 30 tablets is even more a mystery. Frankly, the pain doesn't last that long and really wasn't that intense, I didn't use any of them. But I know you aren't supposed to just throw them away either. So I did some research. Basically, the USDA says you can just flush them down the toilet but conservation groups say no. Their recommendation is to desolve them in water, put the result in an opaque container and throw in the trash. That's for pill. For liquids, it recommends that you put it in something inedible like cat litter and then throw it in the trash. I have some dexamethazone that is in liquid form that I will do that with. That is what I'm discarding today.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 79

I started on the bottom drawer in the bath room today. For some reason I thought it might be the easiest. I threw out a bunch of stuff. Too much to list here but primarily old, almost empty bottles of OTC meds, about a dozen pairs of old glasses and old travel sized bottles of shampoos and conditioners.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 78

Yesterday I took a bunch of stuff to the Women's shelter. All the stuff is stuff mentioned in previous posts so don't count for today. I had my MG office orientation yesterday and the shelter is on the way. Now that I will be going in to do my hours at the MG office, I will be getting by the shelter more often. That's good. I can get rid of the donated stuff much quicker that way.

Today I cleared out the cabinet under my husband's sink. Oh boy, I can't believe what was still in there. Medical supplies brought home from my last child's birth. My youngest will be 20 in July. Needless to say they go in the trash. There was also some feminine protection, broken toilet fixtures and empty packaging as well. Mostly trash that some how hadn't made it into the trash. But now it's gone. Yay. Now on to the drawers. There are 3 of them. That should take me through the rest of the week.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 77

This post should catch me up. I moved to the master bathroom today. Specifically the cabinet under my sink. I found a box with a few tampons in it, a box with a few Today sponges and a pregnancy test kit. Well, since I'm in menopause I won't be needing those things anymore. :-) (and they are way out of date so my daughter won't be able to use them either.)

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 76

This is for Monday's post. I threw away a scented bear that has been sitting in the den for about 3 years. It lost it's scent a long time ago.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 76

Still in the same drawer. I decided it was way past time to get rid of the jewelry and watch boxes that I've been keeping forever. I kept a few that had watches that I think we still have and use but the rest can go in the trash.

365 Days of de-cluttering: Day 75

I was at a horse show all weekend so this post is late. I have to try and do 3 today.

I found some rocks to throw away. Many years ago when Larry was in elementary school I went with him on a field trip. We went somewhere in north Ga to a mine where they let you pan for gold. We did and brought back the "gems" that we found. They've been in the drawer in the wardrobe where I keep the sweaters since then. I think it is time that they were moved out of the house.
